ร่มร่อน พาราไกลดิ้ง เกิดขึ้นตั้งแต่สมัยสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 1 ช่วงนั้น การสังเกตการณ์ของเรือดำน้ำทำได้ยากมาก จึงต้องใช้เรือลากร่มเรียกว่า พาราเซลล์ (Parasail –ร่มที่ใช้เรือเร็วลากจูง) เพื่อสังเกตการณ์เรือข้าศึก หลังจากนั้นจึงมีผู้คิดค้นและประดิษฐ์ร่มแบบสี่เหลี่ยม พัฒนาแก้ไขระบบการควบคุมหรือแก้ปัญหาการร่อนลงได้สำเร็จ จึงเกิดเป็นร่มแบบใหม่ใช้ร่อนจากพื้นดินด้วย การใช้เท้าวิ่งลงจากเนินหรือภูเขาเรียกว่า “พาราไกลดิ้ง” เป็นร่มที่สามารถบังคับการขึ้นลงได้เหมือนการทำงานของปีก และแพนหางของเครื่องบิน และเพียงแต่ดึงสายร่มในมือก็สามารถบังคับ เลี้ยวได้ดังใจ

พาราไกลดิ้ง เป็นกีฬาประเภท Extreme ที่ตื่นเต้นและท้าทาย จัดเป็นหนึ่งในกีฬา “วัดใจ” โดยผู้เล่น ต้องผ่านการเรียนและฝึกฝนจากครูฝึกอย่างจริงจัง ก่อนที่จะสามารถสะพายร่มขึ้นหลังแล้ว กระโดดปล่อยตัวเองจากที่สูง เพื่อให้สายลมพาร่อนไปมาโฉบเฉี่ยบประดุจนก ผู้เล่นต้องเรียนรู้เรื่องการคำนวณทิศทางและกำลังลมที่เหมาะสม ต้องมีสภาพร่างกายที่พร้อม ที่สำคัญคือสติและ หัวใจที่แข็งแกร่ง เพราะกีฬาประเภทนี้ไม่มีเครื่องยนต์กลไกใดๆ ให้บังคับ มีแต่ตัวกับร่ม ลมโชค และหัวใจ

จากผลตอบรับของการนำ “พาราไกล์ดิ้ง” ให้เป็นที่รู้จักของชาวภูเก็ต การแนะนำ “ภูเก็ต” ให้เป็นที่รู้จักของเหล่า “พาราไกลเดอร์” หรือ “นักบินร่มร่อน” กับงาน Phuket Fun Fly 2010 รวมถึงการ เตรียมพร้อมต้อนรับกีฬา Asian Beach Games ที่จะมาเยือนภูเก็ตในปี 2557 ในปีนี้ ชาวภูเก็ต และ พาราไกลเดอร์ทั้งไทยและต่างชาติ จะมีโอกาสได้สัมผัสกับกีฬา Extreme ทางอากาศ ที่มี ลีลาตื่นตาตื่นใจนี้อีกครั้ง ในวันที่ 23 ถึง 26 มิถุนายน 2554 นี้ ณ หาดในหาน ต.ราไวย์ จ.ภูเก็ต

With about 70% of various man-made artifacts had been created from original aim to benefit the military, such as “paragliding”. From World War 1, the observation of the submarine was most difficult, because no submarine has mast. They had to use speed boat to drag and pull up the sail call “Parasail” to observe enemy vessels. With many evolutions, finally the two British gentlemen had success their genius creative of “Paragliding” sail.

“Paragliding” is one of most excited extreme sport. No man can fly or being “Paraglider” without proper training by certified trainer. To be able to fly like bird, the pilot or paraglider has to learn about the “wind”, must be healthy and firmed and most important factors are “consciousness” and “brave heart”.

With reference to last year successful of Phuket Fun Fly 2010, Phuket people has been more familiar to “Paragliding” as well as “Phuket” to “Paraglider” as one of the most beautiful flying trail of the world. This year, Phuket people and both Thai and foreigner paragliders, have a second chance to join one of the world most extreme sport at Nai Harn Beach, Tumbol Rawai in Phuket during 23-26 June 2011.
